Creation Museum Full of Dogma, Void of Science

August 9, 2009

I went to the Creation Museum on August 7 with the Secular Student Alliance and PZ Myers. This “museum” supposedly provided scientific evidence for creation and refutations of evolution. However, there was no science in the “museum”.

Christians Can Not Use Human Reason

Christians Can Not Use Human Reason

I think the picture above is worth 1,000 words. Books on the left represent Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and other sciences. Yet, these sciences are not to be trusted. Instead, we are to rely on words that men claim came from a god.  This is not science, this is DOGMA. The museum proudly claims that Christians should not use their brains or human reason. Creationism is not to be “proven” (or even examined), but it is assumed to be true. This has been a constant theme of Answers In Genesis, the ministry behind the Creation Museum.  The following link is from Answers in Genesis, and it was also publishned in volume 24 of Creation Magazine:
We don’t try to ‘prove’ the Bible with science; rather, we accept the Bible’s propositions as true without proof, i.e. as axioms or presuppositions
  • The heavens, Earth and everything in them were created in six consecutive normal days, the same as those of our working week (Exodus 20:8–11).
  • Earth is about 6,000 years old, since Jesus said mankind was there from the ‘beginning of creation’, not billions of years later (Mark 10:6).
  • Adam sinned and brought physical death to mankind (Romans 5:12–19; 1 Corinthians 15:21–22).
  • Since man was the federal head of creation, the whole creation was cursed (Romans 8:20–22), which included death to animals, with the end of the original vegetarian diet for both humans and animals (Genesis 1:29–30).
  • God judged the world by a globe-covering Flood, which Jesus and Peter compared with the coming Judgment (Luke 17:26–27; 2 Peter 3:3–7). This destroyed all land vertebrate animals and people not on the ocean-liner-sized Ark.
  • God then judged the people by confusing their language at Babel—after they had refused to spread out and repopulate the Earth after the Flood.
It’s important to realize that all ‘facts’ of science do not speak for themselves, but are interpreted within a framework.Evolutionists start with the axiom of naturalism or materialism, i.e. God (if He even exists) performed no miraculous acts of creation.

Biblical creationists interpret the same facts and observations, but within the framework outlined above.

Creationists try to claim that their presuppositions are equivalent to scientific presuppositions. However, that is not the case. Here is a description of scientific presuppositions as summarized by PZ Myers (
I think that explanations should deal with as much of the evidence as possible; they should avoid contradictions, both internal and with the evidence from the physical world; they should be logical; they should make predictions that can be tested; they should have some utility in addressing new evidence. It’s not too much to ask, I don’t think. “Darwin” is not one of my presuppositions, however. Charles Darwin provided a set of explanations that, after some modification, meet my criteria. I am quite prepared to throw Darwin out, however, if a better explanation came along or if evidence that contradicted his ideas were discovered.
Let’s compare these two presuppositions. Creationisms “starting point” is that the earth was created 6,000 years ago, in 6, 24-hour days. There was a worldwide flood around 2384 B.C.E., killing all people and animals with a few exceptions. This is ASSUMED by Creationists to be true. All facts must “fit into this framework.”
Scientific presuppositions are designed not to filter out bad conclusions, not to reach an assumed conclusion. If an idea conflicts with the evidence, then discard that idea. If more data provides new revelations, then old theories may be modified or replaced with new theories.
Creationism starts with conclusions. Science does not start with any conclusion, and it discards bad conclusions.
How bad does the creation museum get? The garden of Eden contains Kangaroos, Penguins, Chimps, and other animals all in a rain forest environment. All animals (including Lions) originally were herbivores (ate only vegetation). Dinosaurs rode in Noah’s ark.  There is no evidence for any of this nonsense. Such claims are based upon dogma, not science, and should not be taught in any science class.
